Planning with Politics - Part 1
Tuesday, January 12th, 2016Major planning decisions are ultimately the decision of council, but planners play a key role in guiding those decisions. They provide a professional perspective and analysis to ensure councilors are equipped to make informed decisions. As opposed to focusing on narrow short-term thinking planners must help councilors connect the dots to understand the broader longer-term implications of their decisions on the future of the cities they are governing.
In this episode we visit with planners, elected officials, consultants, facilitators, and citizens from across Ontario to understand how planners can communicate better, and work within the political arena to shape the cities of the 21st century.
Voices include, Jennifer Keesmaat - Chief Planner - City of Toronto, Carl Zehr - Former Kitchener Mayor, Ian Malczewski - Facilitator, Planner, RPP and many more.
