Hans Moor Lecture & Panel
Tuesday, May 10th, 2011The Planning & Design Centre, in partnership with the Halifax Cycling Coalition, hosted a presentation and panel discussion: Building a Cycling Culture: Learning from the Netherlands. This public forum was designed to build momentum for improved cycling facilities and infrastructure in Halifax and working toward the implementation of the Halifax Bikeways Plan for the Institutional District and the Crosstown Connector.
The presenter was Hans Moor an Economic and Commercial Affairs Officer with the Netherlands Embassy in Ottawa. As a citizen of one of the world’s most bicycle-friendly countries, Mr. Moor has experienced urban cycling at its greatest. Not simply for the super fit and young, cycling is part of daily life for all members of Dutch society.
Following Hans’ presentation, a panel of cycling enthusiasts joined him in a conversation about how to apply ideas from the Netherlands to our local context. The and the panelists were Stephen Bedard, Marie-Claude Gregoire and Rochelle Owen. Audience members also had an opportunity to ask Hans and panelists questions at the end of the evening.
This event was held in partnership with the the Nova Scotia Bikeways Coalition and Dalhousie’s Office of Sustainability. Sponsorship was provided by the Spring Garden Area Business Association, Councillor Sue Uteck and Councillor Jennifer Watts.
